General Settings - An Overview
The General Settings window contains options for configuring Color Swatch
appearances, creating new colors, displaying the Actions and Swatch Tooltips
and checking for Tangerine software updates.

General Settings
Split Swatch View
The swatch view – the rectangular color box inside a swatch – can
be split to show:
- the color as it will appear with its color
profile used, and
- the color as it appears on your monitor without the color profile being
used.
You will find this useful when working with color in applications that do
not use color profiles to display colors, graphics and images. For more information
see Showing the Swatch Color Without the Color Profile.
In Tangerine's split view, the color as it appears on your monitor – without
the color profile being used – is displayed in the top left corner of
the swatch (see the diagram).

Swatch Reflection
Each swatch has a reflection overlay (see diagram). This overlay may slightly
alter the appearance of the swatch's color. In turn, this may interfere
with your ability to choose colors in Tangerine. Consequently, the reflection
overlay can be turned off (or on) in the General Settings window.

Swatch Tooltip
The Swatch Tooltip appears when you hold the mouse over a color swatch for
a short length of time. The delay duration before the Swatch Tooltip appears
can be adjusted to suit your needs. Alternatively, the Swatch Tooltip can be
switched off (or on).
Actions Tooltip
The Actions Tooltip provides a summary of which mouse and keyboard combinations
insert color syntax, apply colors to or retrieve colors from the active application.
Sampled Screen Colors
Colors sampled from a screen are RGB device-dependent. The sample's
appearance may vary widely when viewed on another monitor or output device.
In most cases, making the color sample "device-independent" largely
solves this problem. To do this, you must configure Tangerine to assign a color
profile to the sample color before it is placed into a Tangerine palette.
Note: you can assign RGB, CYMK and Grayscale color
spaces to the sample.
New Color with Values
When you create a new swatch using the 'New Color with Color Values' toolbar
shortcut, your new swatch is automatically assigned a base color. The base
color provides you with an initial (or default) color that you modify into
the color you want. Use the base color to configure an initial color
model (RGB, CMYK or Grayscale) and color profile for each new color you create. For
more information see Creating a New Color and Setting its Color Values.
Check for Updates
You can have Tangerine check the Internet on a weekly basis for new and updated
versions of itself. You should be aware that no private or personal
information is sent when checking for updates.
