Restricting Color Spaces in Palettes
In some circumstances you may want to limit a palette to only accept colors
of a certain color space. For example, if you are designing a website you might
restrict the palette so that it only accepts RGB colors. Colors that do not
meet the restrictions placed on a palette will be converted to a color space
suitable for the palette. When a color is converted, the original color value
is archived in the Swatch Information History Palette. For more information
see Swatch Information Panel - An Overview.
A palette's color space can be restricted in the following ways:
- Accepts all colors.
- Accepts RGB colors only.
- Accepts CMYK colors only.
- Accepts Grayscale colors only.
- Accepts RGB and CMYK colors. Convert to RGB.
- Accepts RGB and CMYK colors. Convert to CMYK.
- Accepts RGB and Grayscale colors. Convert to RGB.
- Accepts RGB and Grayscale colors. Convert to Grayscale.
- Accepts CMYK and Grayscale colors. Convert to CMYK.
- Accepts CMYK and Grayscale colors. Convert to Grayscale.
Color space restrictions do not stop you from modifying a swatch to a color
space that is restricted. Essentially, once a color swatch has been placed
on a palette you are responsible for maintaining its color space restrictions.
Note: changing a palette's color space restriction does not
alter the color space of any swatches that were already in the palette prior
to the change having been made.
