Drag and Drop Color Swatches from Palette to Application
You can drag color swatches from the Palette window and drop them into the
active application. When a drag and drop operation occurs, Tangerine transforms
the swatch color into a drag-able item. Drag-able items can take two forms:
- Text: used for dragging and dropping color syntax into
text areas, or
- Color: used for dragging and dropping colors onto color
wells, setting colors in the Colors
panel, and in some applications (for
example, Apple's iWork), to drag and drop colors onto text and graphics
within a document. For more information see Dragging and Dropping onto
a Color Well.
It is important to note that not all applications support drag and drop – this
is particularly the case when dragging color. What's more, the only Action
in Tangerine that allows color to be dragged and dropped is the "Color" Action
in the Default Actions Library. For more information see Default Actions
Library and Dragging and Dropping onto a Color Well.
A common use of Tangerine's drag and drop functionality is to insert
color syntax in to web development or programming applications. Tangerine has
several Actions that generate a variety of color syntax for multiple programming
languages. See Actions Libraries to view the drag and drop Actions
available in each library.
Holding down either the 'shift' key, 'option' key
or 'command' key while dragging a swatch allows you to drop different
variations in color syntax into an application. Use the Actions Tooltip or
Actions Summary panel to determine which drag-able item – a color or
syntax – will
be dragged for each drag and keyboard combinations. In addition, Tangerine
will generate a preview of the color syntax. This helps to confirm that the
correct syntax is being dragged.
You can customise what drag-able item will be dragged for each drag/keyboard
combination in the Actions window. For more information see The
Actions Window – An Overview.
