Creating a Custom Profile for an Application

It is recommended that you read Using Tangerine with your Favorite Applications before continuing as it provides an overview of Tangerine concepts and terminology.

You can create a Custom Profile for any application. In most cases, the profile will work with any version of that application. For example, if you create a Custom Profile for Dreamweaver 7 (MX2004) it will also work with Dreamweaver 8.

In contrast to Actions Libraries, Custom Profiles can access any Action held in any Tangerine Library. Consequently, you must be careful to choose Actions that are compatible with the application selected for the Custom Profile. For example, the "Set Fill" Action in the Fireworks Actions Library is designed to work specifically with Fireworks and would not be suitable for any other application. Each Actions Library contains information about the applications and the versions of the applications they support. See Action Libraries to help you choose the right Actions to do the job.

You can use a Custom Profile to override the Event Action Pairings of an Action Library. In this scenario, you can select Actions from all Libraries rather than just the Actions Library you are overriding.

Examples of Custom Profiles you can make for a variety of applications are available from our website. See Dreamweaver, GoLive, Pages and Motion.

To create a new Custom Profile:

  1. Open the Actions window by selecting the 'Actions' menu item in the Tangerine menu. Alternatively, click the 'Open Actions' icon – Open Actions Icon – in the Palette window toolbar.
  2. Create a new Custom Profile by clicking the 'Add' button located beneath the Libraries and Profiles List.
  3. Select the profile you have just created in the Libraries and Profiles List. It may already be selected.
  4. Enter a title for your new profile in the 'Profile Title:' text field.
  5. Click the 'Choose' button beneath the 'Profile Title:' text field. In the window that opens, select the application for which your Custom Profile is to be used. The application you select must not have a Custom Profile already assigned to it.
  6. Configure the Event Action Pairings for the profile. For more information see Modifying Event Action Pairings.
